This Century Ltd Marlin is a very low 4-digit serial (2433), and these 1970 39s are distinguished by a fully tapered octagon barrel, brass medallion, brass name plate, and brass butt plate and forend cap as well. Anyone know how many were made Curious of the value. Marlins model 39 (and 39A) has long been revered as one of the greatest classic. While the first generation Model 1897 rifles had them, the first later/repro-type 24' octagon barreled models appeared in 1973, with the 'Cowboy' models coming much later, as posted above. It is a 39 Limited, It says MARLIN AWARD YE CONNECTICUT GUN GUILD 5th ANNUAL GUN SHOW- 1971, The Top says, MARLIN CENTURY LTD, The Marlin Firearms Co. Again, thanks for all the information available here. The Model 39 Century Ltd, w/brass forend nosecap/buttplate and a name plate on the stock was made in 1970 as a Marlin Centennial model 1870-1970, with a 20' octagonal barrel. The 39A was also available in a number of commemorative versions, including Mountie, 90th Anniversary, Presentation, Century Limited, Article II and more. I may have forgotten one or two, but this is a fair representation of what I currently own and shoot. 35 Remington pre-safety that has been cut down to 16-1/2" barrel
One 1895 Cowboy 45-70 that has been cut down to 20" barrel In addition I own several Marlin 1894's, 1895's and 336's and they are. Mine is the 1897 Cowboy Model and is very similar to OPs Century Limited.
#MARLIN 39 CENTURY LIMITED SAFETY INSTALL#
I will also install a globe front sight with interchangable posts. The Model 39 and its derivatives have been steady performers over the years and it deserves the title of 'Great Rifle', it will be a sad day if they ever go out of production. On this recent 39A I plan on installing a vintage all steel receiver sight, probably a Redfield #75 and base, or a Lyman. 22 leverguns and own the following in that caliber. My first levergun was a 1972 vintage 39A that my dad gave me brand new and it has been an excellent rifle and provided me with over 34 years of excellent service. I own several Marlin leverguns, actually more than I can remember at this time. I was mainly just curious as to its vintage, but that was just as I stated for curiosity purposes.
